#JobLove #TheSweatLifeVancouver

Hello lovelies!

I have been busy doing allllll the things! I have been working full time at a new job. I am absolutely head-over-heels in love with my new work. EVERYTHING about it. The people, the environment, what the company stands for. It is just perfect. I work for a litttttle company called Lululemon. I know. How Vancouver of me, right?

Side note: If you followed me along my adventures on my Youtube channel back in the day, you know I actually wasn’t always “for” the company. But I have seen past that and really have seen the heart this company has for the communities across the globe. It is pretty cool to see how much this company cares for its people and the people who come in contact with Lululemon in some way.

Since working for the company, I have gotten a chance to explore SO many styles of fitness. Various styles of yoga, kettlebell workouts, bootcamps, spin, and more. Lately, I have been HOOKED on this cycling studio called “RIDE.” Located on Hamilton Street (by Robson) downtown Vancouver. Think night club/dance meets spin. MY GOSH YOU GUYS!! Seriously. Such a fun workout. Dark room, strobe lights, SUPER loud music, and great people! You would think this workout would be mainly cardio and lower body right? wrong. My upper body was ACHING after! Lots of push ups off the bike AND weights. When the instructor asked if I would be okay with 2 lb weights, I stupidly said “OF COURSE. No problem.” Boy! Was I in for it. SUPER high reps, after spinning your heart out, and movements that work the little itty bitty muscles that you think didn’t exist. Seriously, it is a MUST TRY if you are in Vancouver!

Also, I have been helping lead the run club at our store with our ambassador Nat! So if you are looking for a group of friendly folks to run with, meet us at 6 pm every Wednesday at Lululemon on West 4th! We are starting up training for the Lululemon  Seawheeze Half Marathon. JOIN US (it is FREE if you were wondering)!

To say the least, I am living my best life right now. Surrounded with amazing positive RAD people at work. We sweat together on a regular basis. We push each other to better ourselves both as people and as fitness freaks. I love it! I am finally feeling that I have found my place.

Anyway, I would love to share the various studios and workouts I have been trying out! So get ready for that. I also will be showing our renovation on our new home. Demolition started last week!

Ciao for now, babes!

What have I been up to?

Hey everyone!

I know it has been FOREVER. So much has gone on in the last 9 or so months (NO. There is no baby or pregnancy ;)). So how about we start with a brief recap, shall we?

  • Matt and I moved to Vancouver. We are love, love, loving it here; however, it has been a huge transition. Bigger than we initially thought.
  • We bought a condo! I still cannot believe the neighborhood we will be living in. I am beyond excited to settle in there. But first, we are renovating it. I intend to show the before and after of that process on this blog too! It is an older building (built in the early 90s), and the view is spectacular! I don’t mind it being an older building because that means BIGGER square footage. Really excited to share this space with you all and the vision I have for it. HGTV, Pinterest and all my home renovation shows have prepared me for this moment haha!
  • I have been exploring working in different industries that don’t include health and fitness. I was working at one job for a few months when we first moved here and it was a real eye opener for me. I see how difficult it really is to keep a consistent fitness routine while working 40+ hours a week. Especially with a job that requires you to be on your feet all day.
  • I am currently at a bit of a loss of what I want to do with my life. I’ve been told it is fairly normal to have a bit of a mid-twenties crisis. Not sure how true that is! I feel pretty lost and frustrated haha! But I am working on it.
  • I am about to start a new job soon. I have currently been offered a few positions, which is awesome! However, I hate making hard decisions. I love all the companies/people I met during the interview processes. So I guess it is time to weigh out my options!
  • I am exploring the world of meditation and new age spirituality a little bit.
  • I haven’t been racing too much. But my brother, Matt and I did run the Rock and Roll Vancouver Half Marathon back in October. HIGHLY recommend that course. Absolutely beautiful! I am also running the Lululemon Seawheeze half marathon in August.
  • I traveled a little bit in the last few months. Matt and I went to Vegas for my 26th birthday. I visited my best friend Natalie in her new home in Toronto (can’t wait to go back!). I also got to get away with my brother to Hawaii for a short trip.

I thought I would hop back on my blog, because I truly missed it. I have been wanting to start blogging again, and I figure a post like this would be the best way for me to jump back into things. However, I am going to be sharing much more than just fitness and nutrition on here from now on. Don’t get me wrong, I love to workout and run still. But I feel less inspired to share ONLY that part of my life. This blog represents me, after all. I do want to share everything that excites me and makes me think!

I am on the fence with regards to starting up with my Youtube channel again. I may upload the odd video, but I am not super keen on getting on a consistent schedule with videos. But hey, I’ll never say never.

Thanks for the sweet messages and comments on my various platforms asking if I am okay and if I will ever consider blogging or Youtubing again! It means a lot! I hope the change in content won’t be overly jarring, but my heart is telling me to go from a fitness/health blogger to a lifestyle blogger. Thank you for your support and understanding!

Much love,

xoxo

Where oh where has jonesee been?

*sigh*…again, it has been FAR too long. Sorry guys! Guess I will start by updating y’all on what I have been up to.

First off, we are moving to Vancouver in a month. Cannot believe this is happening. This was always my plan after university, but plans changed when I got bit by the love bug (yeah, I just wrote that. Did you puke a little?). Matt and I always discussed moving to the big city after we got hitched. The time is here!

With this move, we will also be changing careers. Yep. Both of us. It is kind of scary, but I know I need a change. I love the fitness industry, but I found working in it full time hard on me. The pressure to hustle and “make it” was taking a toll on my passion for fitness. I didn’t find joy in it anymore. I need to be active. I need fitness. It has helped me through a lot of personal battles and has shown me a lot about myself. Back in January, I decided working as a Beachbody coach just wasn’t for me anymore. So I decided to terminate that. That alone took a lot of stress off my back. I knew I needed a change, so I am taking this leap of faith. I won’t be working full time in fitness any longer, but I will teach a class here and there. Maybe take on a few clients. But just enough to keep things enjoyable!

So that being said, running and other types of fitness have finally become much more enjoyable again. I ran the Comox Half Marathon back in March. I am no where near as speedy as I used to be, and I realize that is okay. I took most of 2013 off of running and focused on something else. After which I struggled with disordered thoughts, eating and exercising. So my weight did go up. I also had a surgery back in October (if you haven’t watched any of my videos, I had a breast augmentation). So basically, I had to rebuild. It has been a humbling experience, and I am learning my body’s limits again. But I am proud of how far I have come in this short amount of time. I am running the Vancouver Scotiabank Half Marathon on Sunday. One of my favourite courses and I plan on putting everything I can on the race course.

Recently, I was selected to be a Pearl Izumi Champion. I will be wearing my Pearl Izumi Singlet to the Scotia half on Sunday and my Road N2 Pearl Izumi runners (which I have been LOVING by the way. Hope to do a full review of them soon!).

I have also been actively losing weight again. Since January I am down almost 16 lbs. May not sound like a lot for some, but I am learning that I can’t be overly aggressive with my weight loss. I don’t want to trigger the disordered thoughts and “spiral out” again because I am restricting too much. I am enjoying my fitness again. I am enjoying indulgent foods I love, in moderation. I am enjoying life again. My mental health has come so far this year. I am extremely proud of that. Sure I still have some bad days where anxiety seems to run my day but those days aren’t as frequent.

Matt was on deployment earlier this year. After his homecoming, we joined friends in Los Cabos, Mexico for our friends wedding. We went for 2 weeks! Met some amazing people, ate some phenomenal foods and enjoyed our time together.

IMG_0599

Then a week after that, I was off to Vegas for my soon-to-be sister-in-law’s stagette! It was an amazing time! Met some great people, shopped a bit too much (you can never have enough fitness clothes…that’s my motto anyway), and saw Chippendales. Yep! totally expected it to be over the top cheesy. Didn’t expect to like it. But man, it was pretty fun! Oh, and you know my love for cupcakes? hello, cupcake ATM!IMG_0717

Lately, I have been trying to take in the beauty of Victoria as much as we can. Visiting my favourite spots, and going to places we have always said we would go to..just never got around to it. We will definitely be back to visit. We are renting out our beautiful condo here and have many friends we will keep in contact with. It is just a little emotional to leave this chapter of our lives and start fresh on a new one! It is both scary but mostly exciting! it will be nice to be close to family again!

IMG_0543

So I think that is all I can think of for now. It has been a long time since I have updated my blog. Again, I apologize. I felt some pressure to produce tons of content that was purely based on fitness or health in some way. But I realize that I want this blog to be more than that. It is a reflection of what I am up to and a way for me to express myself. So I am hoping to do that more frequently in the future!

Happy 2015!!

Happy New Year, folks!

IMG_0022

I started 2015 by doing something out of my comfort zone, which made for one of the best runs in a very long time! I added trail running into my run. I get nervous running in the trails, especially on my own. I would never do it if the sun was about to go down or anything of that sort. But these trails are very populated, especially on holidays, so I felt a little better about trying them out. I ran about 7 km worth of trails in my 10 km run and it was spectacular. I tucked my ipod away in my pocket and listened to the sounds of the forest. Enjoyed the smell of fresh air and the trees (and the occasional mound of horse poop). It was truly energizing to hear the chirping of the birds, the running of local streams, and the occasional crunch of twigs under my runners. I definitely would like to make trail running apart of my routine more. I am going to try to do so when I am here, visiting Vancouver (since it is easier when I have access to a car to get to trails and what not). It was a new challenge for my body and mind. I really loved it!

I must stay, this is the first time in a while that I have felt excited, energized and positive for the upcoming year. I am ready to work on myself both physically and mentally. I am put the steps necessary towards those goals I have only”wished” for in the past, and actually DO them.

So today, I am going to share a few things I am going to do in 2015…

  • Look to the present and continue into the future.
    • I have focused too much on the past. With weight fluctuations, with where I am with my career, with the pace I now run comfortably at.. all of it. I am deciding now to scrap that. To start with a clean slate and focus on the now. One thing I decided to do, is delete ALL past photos of me off my phone. No more comparing my body to the past. I am focusing on the now and the future :).
  • Weight loss
    • I have mentioned this on Youtube, and now I will here. I am ready to work on the weight that I gained in the last year. I am ready to make the changes necessary.
    • I am giving my try and tracking macros again and continuing with balance.
  • Running more
    • I was on the fence whether to run the full or half marathon in the spring. With my schedule, I don’t feel I could commit the way I would like to if I were to train for the full marathon. So half marathon it is. We will be away for the BMO Vancouver unfortunately, but I will find a half marathon to run. Oak Bay half marathon maybe? Hopefully this time I don’t get hit with a golf ball this time (YUP! That really did happen on course last year).
    • I also am joining a running group again. I miss the social aspect of running. Working hard with friends at your side, and finishing off with a nice cup of coffee. I am excited to meet my new running partners in a few weeks!
  • Move to Vancouver
    • I know it sounds silly to put this down. But this has been a goal of ours to move back to Vancouver. It looks like this year will be the year. We are super excited, and slightly nervous. Fingers crossed our house hunting goes well!! I can’t wait to be closer to family.
  • Get out of my comfort zone more
    • As I mentioned at the start of this post, I did something to get out of my comfort zone. May not sound like a big thing for most people, but running in trails gets me a bit anxious. This year, I am going to do more things to get me out of my comfort zone.

Is this thing on?

Knock, Knock, Knock…is this thing on?

Oh, hey there ;). Yes, I have been a bad blogger…again.

Originally I set out to take a small break from making Youtube videos to focus on some personal things, but it kinda sprouted into all my platforms..and even my cell phone. I am usually that girl with her iPhone clutched in her paws at all times; however, the last while I keep forgetting it on the charger at home!

So what to update you on..hmmm. Well…

Early October, we got back from Florida. The trip was wonderful and just what both Matt and I needed. I really love that state. Also I went HARD at the Victoria’s Secret Outlet in Orlando. How could I not? PINK sweatpants for $10? VS sports bras for $14.99? don’t mind if I do!

I spent about a week with my family after that. I have been missing my family and Vancouver a lot lately. (But we are planning on moving back within the next year or so!!) So when ever I get a chance, I try to get over there! Plus there was Canadian Thanksgiving. Hello, pumpkin pie <3.
IMG_6420
Halloween? We went to two parties. One at the Fleet club and the other at a friends place (separate weekends). I dressed up as Sandy from Grease, and then as a ballerina for the second party. Matt dressed up as his favourite condiment…HOT SAUCE. T’was a good time, and lots of candy was consumed. LOTS.

Early November, we helped out with house and dog sitting while my family went away for a destination wedding in Mexico. It was great to catch up with old friends and with my brother. The puppies were both on medications so it was a bit more of a handful than usual. But I would do anything for those pooches. They are all better now though! 🙂

IMG_6393

Mid November I went to the event I CANNOT WAIT for every year, the Can-Fit-Pro Vancouver Conference. Talk about fire in my belly! I learned so many cool things about nutrition and have been implementing what I learned into my own routine.IMG_6432

Oh.. and I may have hit up the Vancouver Chipotle more than twice during that week. Yolo? I am all about dat bowl (without sour cream). It will be deadly if we live within a 5 km radius of this place when we move. I will be tempted to go all the time. IMG_6419

Late November, I joined hot yoga again. Not Bikram’s style, it really isn’t my thing. I like variety and this particular studio gives me that. I never had tried this location out before, but I have fallen in love with it. The people are so kind, the facility is calm and CLEAN (big thing for me) and I can’t get enough! It has been nice spending time each day on my mat. On the days I really don’t want to go, I have now seen that I need yoga most. It really settles my mind and helps strength/stretch my body.

IMG_6457

I also have been trying out a new run club lately. It is a bit small in attendance at this time of year. It is the rainy season after all (though we have been very lucky lately!).

IMG_6442

Also, I have been obsessed with “Green Cuisine” here in Victoria, as well as juice from Cafe Bliss. Trying to cut down on the juice since it is bloody expensive…and I can totally make them on my own to save some moooola!

IMG_6458

Ooooo! and our condo has the gym all set up. VERY happy with it!

IMG_6447

So there you go. That is what has been up..well not entirely. I have been working on a few things I prefer to keep private for the time being too.

I will do my best to get more consistent again. Stay tuned, since I think I will be participating in Vlogmas (video blogging everyday in December). Figured, why not?! December is a more exciting month for us. We have holiday parties, we are going to Winnipeg and Vancouver, and then.. no idea what we will do for NYE…maybe order in Chinese again? we did that last year and it was DELISH.

Oh! and I have been adding snaps to my snap story on Snapchat! Give me a follow if you wish! Same username as everywhere else (Jonesee90).

Taking a break..

Sooooo, I totally took an extended break off of MOST of my social media platforms. Oopsies, sorry!

I have been back from Florida for a while now but I have been keeping busy with a few things.

A) been working on something I am choosing to keep personal for a little while, I will mention it later on 🙂 (sorry for being THAT annoying vague blogger).

B) been working on my free lance local training business (webpage, policies etc) as well as coaching

C) it is been kinda nice living life and not documenting everything (hope you don’t take it personally ;)).

But I am here! Today, I thought I would talk about taking a break…with exercise?

Say whaaaat?!

I took the longest break from working out since starting my journey to a healthier me in 2009. Why? I felt stuck. I felt I was in a funk. I felt like fitness was a punishment rather than something I enjoyed. NO THANKS.

4814e1143d9e83993500732c21b83dc2

Fitness has been something I have enjoyed my whole life. I was an avid team sports player most of my adolescent years, and fell in love with strength training and running in my early 20s. Sometimes you get in a funk. You get bored. Sometimes.. you need a break.

Now don’t get me wrong. I didn’t just sit on the couch all day and do ZIP. I was still active with walking and what not. I live in a city where I can walk anywhere and I also do not have a car I can drive. So I do my best to keep walking throughout the day. But I took time to just relax, take a couple hot bubble baths, and renew myself. That is exactly how I feel, my love for fitness is back and renewed. I WANT to be active. I WANT to get my heart rate going. Not, I NEED to workout.

Also, I think my body benefited from the physical rest I was giving it. So mentally and physically, this break has done me well.

QOTD: Have you ever taken a break from exercise for something like this?

Florida Trip- Part 1: Miami, Tampa, & Orlando

Vacation, again?

Yes, yes.. well kind of. The trip we were on before was kind of a vacation, but more so to see our wonderful family and friends :). With Matt being gone for a good third (or more) of this year, we thought it could be nice to explore and enjoy some time together in beautiful sunny Florida.

Before we left Vancouver, we met for brunch with my very best friend Natalie and her boyfriend. EVERYONE has been going on and on about chicken and waffles. Can I just say? sounds gross. Well.. it sounded gross. Jordan said Tableau (in Vancouver on Melville by Bute) is the place to go, boy was he right. It wasn’t overly greasy or heavy. So good. They served it with maple syrup and gravy on the side too.

IMG_6272

We had a red eye to Toronto and then onward to Miami. We got to our destination around 1 pm on Monday (left around 10:30 Vancouver time on Sunday). At our 3 hour layover in Toronto, we were blessed to see a beautiful sunrise. This photo doesn’t do this justice. In the background you can see the skyline of downtown Toronto. Gorgeous.

IMG_5175Once in Miami, we shuttled our way to the hotel. We stayed close to downtown. We decided to go for a walk and HOLY was it humid! we decided to hop on one of the free city trolleys instead and found ourselves at an outdoor mall. We found somewhere to eat and then headed back to the hotel and conked out.

I woke up feeling SO rested and hit the gym pretty hard for 45 minutes. We took the free shuttle from the hotel into Miami Beach/ South Beach area. First thing we did? Went for a swim. How can you not in this beautiful water?!

IMG_6289At one point I felt something on my hand and looked back to see I had a big jellyfish behind me. Luckily, no stings. But it scared me pretty good. We met some wonderful friendly folks on the beach, talked for a while then went off to find Lincoln mall. I remembered going there when I was in Miami a few years back. We found a Nespresso cafe that was HUGE. Never seen a stand alone store like this!

IMG_6290#heaven

After tons of walking about, and a little shopping at Madewell, Matt and I were staving. Most of the places around looked overpriced or much of the same (especially on Ocean Ave). We found a little Italian place by the shuttle drop off point and the pizza was phenomenal. I had the prosciutto one and Matt went with a pepperoni one. We did a little splitzies.

IMG_6291SO good.

The next day we packed up, and went to grab our rental car to head up towards Tampa area. Matt and I have been planning the trip as we go. We had a few spots already planned, but for the rest, we would book as we went along.

I really wanted to go towards Tampa to meet a dear internet friend. I have been talking to Julie for YEARS. Pretty much since I started this whole journey. I just HAD to see her in person. We met at Dunkin Doughnuts (mainly because I LOVE their coffee and they don’t have it in Canada but also because it was really close). We talked over coffee and then went for a nice walk around town with her little guy. We hit it off (just as I knew we would). I really wish we lived closer!! But it is okay, because she has to come to Canada at some point (sorry girl, you don’t have a choice ;)).

IMG_6300Such a wonderful day! We talked so much that we almost had her miss her afternoon appointment! oopsies!

I got back to the room and Matt and I jetted off towards Orlando and than onward to where we are now, Cocoa Beach. We hit up Orlando so we could go to the Premium Outlets there.. okay..it wasn’t Matt’s choice at all. All me. But grabbed some amazing deals at the Victoria’s Secret Outlet (I believe this is the only one they have in the US but could be wrong). If you get a chance to go, IT IS SO WORTH IT. I bought a VSX sports bra (they are amazing if you have never had them) originally  around $60 for $14.99. YUP. Also, snagged some sweats for $10. Win. SO could have spent the entire day at that outlet.. but a couple hours worked fine. Didn’t want the husband to be TOO upset with me ;).

Now off to enjoy Cocoa Beach!!
